VERY EARLY WARD LOCK GUIDE - LEAMINGTON - 1905 - RARE!

This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1901 and 1910.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1905/06.  10th edition revised.  Details as follows :

Area covered : Leamington Spa, including Warwick, Kenilworth, Coventry. Stratford-upon-Avon, Rugby etc.

Contents : 144 pages of text.  3 maps (1 missing) and 2 sketch plans.  50 illustrations.  96 pages of wonderful old contemporary advertisements.

Overall condition : Very good.

Maps :  One map is missing.  The others appear to be complete and undamaged.

Covers : Very good with normal wear.  Slight bumping to corners.

Spine : Very good.  Slight wear and a little scuffing at bottom edge.

Binding : Very good.  Spine cloth (with covers attached) are detaching from binding itself - could be easily reglued.

Pages : Very good with normal wear and not much discolouration.
