VERY EARLY WARD LOCK GUIDE - COLWYN BAY - 1912 - RARE!

This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1910 and 1918.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1912/13, new edition.  Details as follows :

Area covered : Colwyn Bay and North Wales (northern section) including Rhyl, Llandudno, Bangor and Chester.

Contents : Well over 200 pages of text, plus 98 pages of fascinating old advertisements.  9 fold-out maps and 2 sketch plans, and over 60 illustrations.

Overall condition : Very good, but externally rather worn with some damage.

Maps :  Very good. All of the maps and plans are present and complete, apart from one which has been repaired and is loose.

Covers : Good, but quite a lot of wear and slight fading.  Some bumping to the edges. Small tear to inside of rear cover.

Spine :  Some damage to spine cloth - scuffed and split down all one side which has led to the front cover (and first few pages) coming loose.

Binding : Very good, apart from split inside front cover.

Pages : Very good.  Normal wear. Some discolouration.
