VERY EARLY WARD LOCK GUIDE - CHANNEL ISLANDS 1910 RARE!

This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1910 and 1918.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1910/11, 17th edition revised.  Details as follows :

Area covered : The Channel Islands, including Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and parts of the French Coast (Brittany and Normandy)

Contents : 160 pages of text, plus 90 pages of fascinating old advertisements.  6 fold-out maps (1 missing) and over 70 illustrations.

Overall condition : Very good.

Maps :  One of the fold-out maps (Jersey) is missing.  All the others are complete and undamaged, apart from one which has a tear (no loss) - could be easily repaired.

Covers : Good, but rather worn and with some superficial markings. Some rubbing to edges.

Spine :  Very good. Normal wear.  Slight scuffing to top edge. No damage.

Binding : Very good.

Pages : Very good.  Normal wear.  Quite a lot of discolouration in places.
