VERY EARLY WARD LOCK GUIDE - BUXTON - 1915 - RARE!

This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1910 and 1918.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1915/16, 13th edition revised.  Details as follows :

Area covered : Buxton, the Peak, Dovedale, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and surrounding parts of Derbyshire.

Contents : 144 pages of text, plus 86 pages of fascinating old advertisements.  3 fold-out maps (unfortunately all missing), 2 sketch plans and 70 illustrations.

Overall condition : Good.

Maps :  The three maps are missing.

Covers : Good, but rather worn and rubbed.

Spine :  Good. Quite worn and creased.  Scuffing to top and bottom edges. No other damage.

Binding : Excellent.

Pages : Very good.  Normal wear.  Slight discolouration at edges.

Other : Small pencil inscription inside front cover.
