I purchased a few of these from a dealer at a Boat Chandeliers Fair some time ago. The Gentleman selling them was unsure of their origin as they were part of a collection belonging to his late Father, He believed that they were called “NKOBNKOB” and could be Dutch, but where more likely to be the very first British Manilla’s to come out of Birmingham, these Manilla’s would have been around 100+ years earlier than the Manilla’s that the Douro was carrying (which I am also selling) when she sank off the Isle of Scilly in 1843 and obviously a lot rarer, they are also a lot bigger than the Douro Tokens and measure approximately 8.5cm across, the picture is for comparison only, the smaller Token is the later type from the Douro, the larger is the early NKOBNKOB, one NKOBNKOB is what you will receive. |
