You are bidding on a Varian Cryogenic Pump Temperature Indicator. This was used to indicate the temperature of the cold head within a cryo pump, typically around 12 degrees Kelvin.

This item is a standard bourdon guage with a capilary tube pressurized with 100 psi of hydrogen. It works by the pressure of the hydrogen getting less as the capilary becomes colder. When close to 10 derees Kevin the hydrogen itself changes from a gas to a liquid reducing the pressure to about 5 psi. This guage is not very linear, but gives accurate measurment of temperatures close to absolute zero.

The guage mounts on a standard minature Con Flat (new copper gasket supplied)

May be usefull to experimenters using cryogenics for superconductors.

I have another similar Varian digital guage and sensor offered on ebay, this gives a digital linear temperature readout from +100 degrees C to 4 degrees Kelvin (-269 degrees C)
