The is an unissued certificate for the Upper Coos Railroad, headquartered in Lancaster, NH. The line was leased in 1890 to the Maine Central Railroad, resulting in this guaranteed dividend stock, certificate No. 123 in red.

About 30 years ago, the Maine Central Railroad Co. sold off, or sometimes gave away, old documents from its files. They tended to sell stock certificates of companies that became part of the MEC. There are two types of those certificates. One is the certificates for actual issued stock of the companies, which the MEC had to buy from stockholders, then cancel. Second, after they completed the merger, they ended up with the acquired company's files, which often included unissued stock certificates. This is one such unissued paper. They are pristine is most cases.

This certificate is dated _189___, and was printed by John A.  Lowell & Co., Boston,  on rag onionskin. It measures 11.5 x 7.5 inches; with stub, the width is 16 inches.

This has not been folded, which poses a mailing problem because of its wide unfolded size.  I dunno about an envelope and cardboard that large and related costs. I suggest a mailing tube, which costs $2.19 at P.O. plus postage, so I'm putting $3.75 as U S shipping. If you want it folded -- which I do not recommend, take off the tube cost. Thanks for looking. Check a few others. I can combine shipping on some of these, so if you bid on and win more than one, hold off on payment so we can settle up all at once. Bruce
