Unusual pine box of unknown vintage, probably early 20th century? It measures approx 10" x 10" x 12" (260mm x 260mm x 300mm) and is strongly made, with two sets of doors, one which is made of several types of wood in a simple marquetry sort of pattern. The knobs from the bottom doors are detatched but included. Small brass catch holds these closed. Inside it looks as if some kind of inner piece is missing maybe? The back is made of thin plywood. Have no idea what this box was made for as it's too small for a writing slope, and anyway the marquetry wouldn't be flat enough to rest on. Maybe it was an apprentice piece? It has had a bit of furniture beetle in the past, but no sign of activity now. Nice little box looking for a new home.
I'm slowly clearing out a lot of old family stuff so please check out my other items.
