Offered for sale is this lovely, very unusual and stunning quality, American, 1800's, large four pronged serving fork. Wonderful classical design with gladiator cameo motif to the handle.
This is one of a small group of American Silver items being listed this week.
The piece is not marked for silver, it does have some marks which are shown in the photos below. Acid tests as silver, but have not scratch tested, may be heavily silver plated, as silver plate design was one of his skills. The marks to the reverse are for W. Kirkham.
There is an engraved monogram to the reverse.
William Kirkham was born in 1831 Newington CT. His career was a silversmith, watchmaker and silverplate designer. Possibly one of his richly ornate silver plate pieces?
