John Stroud joined Imperial Airways in 1933 at the age of 14. He accompanied Imperials travelling exhibit, promotong Britains flagship airline, and learned to hone his skills in the presentation of visual aids and as an aviation artist himself. he also meticulously compiled chronologies and technical data of airliners. Armed with this information, he was to write countless magazine articles, and later many books. This work has provided the foundation for research by numerous aviatin scholars who came after him. his profile drawings of airliners, like all his output, was wholly accurate and reliable. He would often collect his technical data on the flight decks of the airliner that he reviewed. These included all those of Imperial airways, together with the Dutch fokkers, german junkers and numerous french and italian aircraft. after WW2 he was well placed to become the technical editor of the Putnam series of of aeronautical books. he wrote many books himself and he was a fastidious editor of some 70 titles.
