Almost two years after the date originally planned for the addition of this city, Eugene, Oregon was added to Air Mail Route 11 on May 1, 1943. As an official cachet had been designed and provided for this point at the time of the Salem, Oregon addition, the Post Office Department permitted this to be used, contrary to its policy of not providing distinctive cachets for wartime inaugurals. Eugene was served as a stop between Salem and Medford.

 

This cover was carried on the United Airlines  inaugural Air Mail Route 11 flight from Eugene, Oregon to Salem, Oregon and is listed in the Contract Air Mail (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 8N36.
