Created from beautiful vintage textiles, I have designed a range of unique lavender filled hanging pillows in the style of vintage handbags ~ inspired by my own personal collection of original Victorian and early 20th century beaded bags. I love the shapes and sizes of these early bags and they display so well ~ that I couldn't resist! For this simple yet elegant little bag I have used a pretty 1930's dark blue and white floral printed fabric of German origin c.1930 with a plain white vintage French linen. I have finished it with a length of Victorian lace edging and a gorgeous cobalt blue faceted glass button ~ also Victorian. The 'handle' is a length of old cotton woven ribbon. It measures approximately 13cm x 9cm at the widest points (without ribbon) and is generously filled purely with the best French dried lavender. Unashamedly feminine ~ perfect for a special gift if you can bear to give it away ~ it looks lovely simply hanging on a drawer or door knob, over a bedstead or propped up on a dressing table amongst other lovelies.......
All of the creations that you see are unique, one-off pieces handmade by me and are inspired by my love of all things vintage ~ especially textiles and haberdashery. Hand-dyed threads, vintage linen, faded florals, velvet, silk and wool; tiny glass, diamante, enamel and pearl buttons; beads, ribbons and jewels ~ these are a few of my favourite things..... Many of the ingredients I use are old and have been loved and used in a previous life, therefore there may be inherent natural flaws and signs of age that are part and parcel of 'vintage' materials. This gently faded, worn and slightly shabby appearance is an important part of their beauty and I believe only add to their charm and are the very reason that they appeal to me ~ and hopefully to you too! I will always be clear to describe any obvious major flaws, but please look at the photos in addition to the written description and I am very happy to answer any specific questions that you may have.
