To replace a CV boot on a vehicle there are basically 3 options available: Option 1 REPLACE WITH A STANDARD CV BOOT Advantage: High quality boot and long lasting repair. Disadvantage: Requires a CV joint to be removed from the shaft and often the shaft having to be removed from the gearbox. This can often be quite a time consuming repair. Option 2 REPLACE WITH A STICK-TOGETHER CV BOOT Advantage: Quick repair. Disadvantage: In practice it is almost impossible to maintain enough cleanliness to successfully glue together the seam of the boot. This method is also unlikely to give you a long-lasting repair. Option 3 REPLACE WITH A STRETCH CV BOOT Advantage: High quality boot, long-lasting repair, much easier to fit than a standard CV boot. This is a method that many professional mechanics use due to cost and time saving advantages. Disadvantage: Requires either a fitting cone or air-powered tool to stretch the boot over the CV joint.
