UNIQUE CAST ALLOY RETRO-INDUSTRIAL AGE GUITAR
Here is a one-off. You wont find another on the planet!
I purchased this unusual instrument last year to add to my guitar collection, which is 35+ since I last counted. I am pursuing a new hobby of mine converting guitars to Variax, so I really want to release some capital to finance the venture.
More info at my website: TransAxe Guitars
This is one of the guitars that has to go........
The main framework body of this guitar is made of a solid piece of cast aluminium alloy. It was forged in Sheffield where they are experts in this field!
The body is made up of 4 pieces of rustic vintage mahogany, which are bolted to metal tags projecting from the alloy body which compliment it perfectly. It has lashings of solid brass trimmings to give the guitar a retro-industrial age feel.
The electronics consist of a single pickup which slides on 2 brass rails with a gearshift type lever off an old car!
The neck is slim & fast. The fingerboard is rosewood & this is bolted to a recess in the alloy with 3 hex bolts. The heads are visible between the highest frets, but in no way affects playability as the fingers dont touch the fretboard in this position. It also features an EARVANA nut & quality tuners.
The sustain seems to go on forever, no doubt aided by the solid alloy construction & through-the-body stringing. The bridge rests on a solid 1/4" brass plate which acoustically gives the sound a bright metallic ring. Electrically, the tone varies from a bright metallic Telecaster sound to a warm, humbucking Gibson tone & everything in between.
I have done a few mods since owning it. Originally, it came with a single coil pickup. I replaced this with a double coil Duncan Seymour & put a 3 way toggle switch so that either coil can be selected, or both together. This gives the guitar an infinite tonal variation since the position of the pickup is variable. I also turned the gear-lever through 90 degrees to stop it pressing against my ribcage & this makes sliding the pickup position much easier.
I cannot hope to describe this instrument fully in this confined space, so am happy to answer any questions & submit further photos on request.
