Floor-Play Heating systems come in various sizes, allowing you to choose the right heater for your installation. Make sure that you have purchased the right size heater to ensure sufficient heat specific to the area you want heated. Consult the table below to make sure the colour of your heater will cover the area required. Our heaters are based between 125W/m2 – 175W/m2.
The insulation used on the floor surface will determine whether or not you need to rate the heater slightly higher / m2. No insulation on floor surface will require a heater rated higher to ensure sufficient heat for that room.
Example: ROOM WITH INSULATION BOARD OF ABOUT 10mm. 12 m2 room X 125W = 1500W Therefore a 1500W heater is required. Example: ROOM WITHOUT INSULATION BOARD. 12 m2 room X 175W = 2100W. Therefore a 2000W heater is required.
FLOOR SURFACE:
It is advised that you use an insulation board as this will assist in heating up the room faster and increase the efficiency of the heater as it will cycle less often if the heat is maintain in the room.
Make sure the floor surface is clean, free of dust and dry.
If the thermostat has a floor probe wired to it, chisel or grind a slot in the floor surface to bury the floor probe.
Chisel or grind a hole about 3inches squared and half an inch deep. This is where the block is made. Once the heater has been laid down, the joint between both cold leads, and the element must be placed in this hole and filled with an epoxy resin or silicon to ensure the cables to not move or touch.
Once the floor surface has been cleaned thoroughly, apply the floor primer. It is strongly recommended that a floor primer is used to ensure maximum adhesion when installing the heater.
LAYING DOWN THE HEATER: Before laying down the heater, ensure you plan the layout. This is important as the heater could be the incorrect size for the room. All heaters are a standard width of ±620mm (±24inches). You must make allowance for a minimum gap of 60mm or 2.3inches between any part of the heater cable and at least 100mm or 4inches from any wall or cupboard.
A typical example of a 1500W heater. Approximately 10 meters X 0.6 meters.

1. When unrolling the heater, un-tape the ends of the red and black tape and only pull out the cold lead (cable attached to the heating element to return to the thermostat) attached to the end you are working with. This will ensure the cold lead attached to the other end of the cable does not get tangled, or in your way when installing the heater. You will now be left with a brown live wire, a blue neutral wire and two green earth wires. These wires need to be wired to the thermostat. (follow thermostat wiring instructions) The thermostat should be fed by a main supply which is connected to an RCD. It is strongly recommended that a qualified electrician completes this process.
