Summary
This is a pre-painted and pre-assembled model of a U.S. Army M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. It is pre-painted in the typical Desert / Sand camouflage paint scheme (with additional markings). The model also includes two optional turret mounted M2 and M240 machine guns (supplied on a plastic sprue), they can be cut-off and either clipped or glued in place on the turret.

These particular 1/144th scale models are very accurately moulded in dense plastic resin and painted with a very high level fine detailing.

This is one model from a collection of 21 available from the Takara World Tank Museum Volume 06 (released in 2004). This volume of models featured post World War II AFVs (and one helicopter); and has now been discontinued.

The model is brand new and individually sealed in it's original plastic tray and boxed. The box has been carefully opened (from the bottom - top seal intact) in order to identify which model it is, but otherwise the box is in brand new condition.

Please Note - The models were sold randomly packed in Japan, therefore the box must be opened to discover which model of a possible 21 is inside.

Brief History of the M1A1 Abrams
M1A1 Production started in 1986 and continued to 1992; around 5000 were built in total. The Abrams M1A1 first saw action in the Gulf War in 1991. A total of 1,848 M1A1s were deployed to Saudi Arabia. The M1A1 was superior to Iraq Army Soviet-era T-55, T-62 tanks, and the Iraqi assembled Russian T-72. Around 23 M1A1 tanks were taken out of service in the Gulf.

The M1A1 was capable of making kills at ranges in excess of 2500 m. This range was crucial in combat against tanks of Soviet design in Desert Storm, as the effective range of the main gun in the Soviet/Iraqi tanks was less than 2000 m. This meant the M1A1 could strike before the enemy guns were in range; a decisive advantage in this theatre of combat. M1A1 tanks (120 mm gun) came from the factory with the NATO tri-colour camouflage Black/Medium-Green/Dark-Brown CARC (Chemical Agent Resistant Coating) paint jobs.
