Trap Making - Step by Step

Brand new book

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Printed in a clear large format - each page 11.5 inches x 8.25 inches.

Softback covers.

100 pages.

"The book is concise, easy to follow and does exactly what it claims, with a list of tools needed and easy-to-follow plans and diagrams for each trap.  ……… This book would be useful to all gamekeepers, but especially to those who are just starting out in the profession and for students, to whom it will be an invaluable source of reference."

National Gamekeepers Organisation – September Magazine

This is a newly published book specifically written for anyone who wants to have a go at making their own traps; from the rural householder to the gamekeeper or farmer.

Based on well proven traditional designs, this book gives simple step by step instructions which enable anyone with basic carpentry skills to make a range of traps.    Each chapter also includes a discussion on Options and Variations so that as the readers confidence grows, designs can be modified and developed with completely new ideas.

All of the detailed plans work with light weight wire mesh and wood in sizes that are easy to obtain from any timber yard or builders merchant.

Droptop Box trap

This is an excellent beginners trap.  The basic principle is that the lid and front of the trap are pivoted and suspended above the trapping chamber

Seesaw Trap - basic & improved versions.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

See-saw traps are simple box traps which are effective for rats, squirrels, mink and even recapturing ferrets.   My own development of the See-Saw trap makes it easier to deal with any catches.

Rabbit Drop Box

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The rabbit drop box is a large scale, permanent set, multi-catch trap.   It consists of a fairly large pit with a pivoted trapdoor above it and a tunnel to channel the rabbits over the trapdoor.

Magpie Larsen Trap

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Larsen trap is a very effective trap, mainly for magpies, although it also has been known to catch crows, jays and other corvids.

Pigeon Trap

Detail of large and small sized traps using ‘bobwire’ doors.

Funnel Trap & Ladder Trap

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Large scale traps for crows and jackdaws.

'Fenn' tunnel.

Tunnels are a legal requirement for many types of Spring Trap listed in the 1995 Spring Trap Approval Order.

Mesh trap designs, triggers and door.

One group of ‘all mesh’ traps are effectively wire box traps.  The main difference in the manufacture is that rather than assembled from lots of separate pieces joined together, most of the trap is often made from a single large sheet of mesh.
