Nelson joined the navy at 12, was a captain at 20, was known throughout Europe by 39 and died in battle at just 47. He had a full and colourful life.  He was a charismatic leader who inspired all who served under him. He was an opportunist in battle and possessed great courage and fortitude.

He had a very public love affair with Emma Hamilton, one of the most beautiful women of the time, and he was an affectionate father.
