Description:
A good rural landscape watercolour on artist's paper, signed J.Aldous and dating circa 1920s. Framed - approx 18 X 16 inches ( 45 X 40 cm).

This is a good English Traditional watercolour dating from the 1920s period.
The rural landscape depicts a traditional picturesque English River Landscape. The river lazily meanders from foreground through to a distant village. The river is flanked by bullrushes and reflects a stand of goat or pussy willow on the far bank whilst cattle graze the rich floodplain meadows to the centreground. The village rests, half hidden by lush hedgerows and cottage garden trees and to the distance the skyline is defined by tall plane trees oaks or beech.
The work is signed J.Aldous lower right.

The watercolour probably dates to around 1920s.
Framing:
Original classic scroll and floral moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt.
It has a mount of gilt
Condition:
The painting is in good condition displaying a mellowed pallette. One mark can be seen in the sky to the left hand side. The frame is in generally excellent condition, probably original but reset. One corner moulding is missing from the top left.
