Torinawa Jutsu - Traditional Japanese Prisoner Binding Book

Torinawa Jutsu (also known as Hojo Jutsu) is the feudal Japanese martial skill of binding a prisoner with rope. It was practiced by both the Bushi (samurai class), and Edo period police officers to restrain prisoners who needed to be kept alive.

Interestingly, the kind of binding employed on a prisoner varied depending on the crime, and the social tier of the offender.

This is a somewhat sparsely practiced art today, but one with many intricacies of technique and function; nevertheless, it is considered one of the Japanese martial arts with systems of shinsa (skill display and testing) and dan (ranking).  

Some of the methods are still employed by Japanese law enforcement today.
