This is not strictly a nut at all, more of a grass root node.
It is a member of the Sedge family and is classed as a herb.
Packed full of carbohydrates, the Tiger (Chufa) nut was one of the first domesticated crops many thousands of years ago.

The taste is of a sweet, nutty (slightly Almond) flavour.
Very chewy and a really good taste.
The Spanish make a wonderful drink from it-where it gets the name 'Chufa nut' from.
