Manjushree Manjushree is the god of divine wisdom whose worship confers
mastery of the dharma, retentive memory, mental perfection and eloquence. He is also one of the Bodhisattvas and
symbolises wisdom. In Nepal he is considered the founder of Nepalese civilisation
and the creator of the Kathmandu valley.
He was a Chinese saint, whose intuition told him of the blue flame
(symbolising adibuddha or swayambhu) on a lotus in the big lake of Nepal. He went there to offer worship but
couldn’t reach it because of the water, so cut the southern wall of the hills
with his sword. The water of the lake drained away to the south and the Kathmandu valley was formed. He carries the sword of wisdom and light in his right hand
and the prajnaparamita manuscript, the book of divine wisdom, on his left on a
lotus blossom. His left hand is in the jnana mudra or teaching gesture. TO SEE MORE THANGKAS PLEASE CLICK HERE PLEASE CLICK HERE TO VIEW MY OTHER ITEMS
