Thin section geological slide Pyroxenite (Ultrabasic?)

This is a thin section of Hydrothermally altered Gabbro from the Eycott volcanics near Mosedale, in the Lake District, Cumbria.  The GA guide has this as ferrogabbro and there is some magnetite in this slide, the rock as a whole verges on a pyroxeneite and ultrabasic. Spectacular alteration has occurred, the pyroxene has been altered at its edges to give a fringe of green hornblende/uralite, and a groundmass of chlorite with actinolite needles. Some of the chlorite shows classic anomalous blue colours under XPL. Also look for apatite. Very Highly recommended slide.

3 out of 4 times I try to make a slide from this material it breaks up ( high level of alteration makes the pyroxene brittle). This is a good one. Will not be offered very frequently
