Item specifics - Collectables: Royalty

Impressive set of 10 large Sterling silver Ingots featuring the Queens Beasts. These were bought by my Aunt in 1976. Presented in a nice box, looks mahogany but the paperwork says 'walnut finish', with original blue felt interior and a perspex cover. Ingots are still very shiny having been protected by the perspex cover which has prevented tarnishing. Plaque to inside of box says 'The Queens Beasts, The Queen's Silver Jubilee'. This is from a limited edition of 7500. The original issue price of these was £15.75 each, so £157.50 for the set. They were made by the Danbury mint. The name of each beast id embossed on the rear of each ingot.

I have the original subscription letter and cardboard advertising flier which gives a lot of background on the subject and is quite impressively printed bearing in mind the date with silver images of the ingots.

Ingots depict:

The Lion of England
The Griffin of Edward III
The Falcon of the Plantagenets
The Black Bull of Clarence
The White Lion of Mortimer
The Yale ofy Beaufort
The White Greyhound of Richmond
The Red Dragon of Cadwalder
The Unicorn of Scotland
The White Horse of Hanover

My scales are not very good at the lower weights, but looking at old auction sites, these are listed as 48g each - 481g in total. In the flier it says ' a single ingot contains at least 725 grains of solid silver, and the purity of the silver is attested by the official Government Assay Ofiice hallmark.

No damage to ingots, which are hallmarked to the side of each. Box is in very good condition for age, with only a couple of scratches which will touch up with a bit of coloured wax (I can do this for you if you prefer, or I'll leave it to any prospective buyer).

I have struggled to find lots to compare with so as to set the price, the only website I did find reference to them on listed them at a value of £250, so I am going to start the auction at half of that.

Sold as seen, please ask for more photos if you need. I can not be responsible for the postal service, I can drop off if you are in Birmingham of Coventry for a  small fee so as to avoid the risk of loss, or you are welcome to pick up. Please contact me if you are outside of the UK to confirm postage costs prior to bidding, for something like this I will insist on a signed for service. Thanks for looking and good luck!
