Carl Spitzweg Pewter Plaque commemorates the well-known German artist with a pewter reproduction of one of his paintings titled "Der BriefBote" (The Postman). The plaque measures approx 10" in diameter and is finely detailed with raised images and decorated around the rim. The word "Rosenthal" is engraved near the figure of the postman and may be the name of the artist who created this pewter plate. The plaque is also marked WMF on the back.
To the left of the center panel is a panel bearing the following words: "Carl Spitzweg, 1808-1885. Skurrile Figuren aus der liebenswerten Welt des Biedermeier." (roughly translated: Comical figures from the cherished world of Biedermeier.)
A panel on the right states: "Carl Spitzweg, 1808-1885. Maler und Zeichner besinnlicher Motive aus der guten altenZeit." (roughly translated: Painter and designer of nostalgic subjects from the good old days.) (Feel free to offer better translations!)
