The Phantom of the Opera - Switchblade Symphony

The silent 1925 masterpiece, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, has been remastered here to a stunning soundtrack by the seminal electronica group Switchblade Symphony. Lending an element of dark modernity to the horrific film, the music is gothic and trippy. Lon Chaney's masterful performance as the Phantom and the gorgeous black and white photography are only enhanced by these lush sounds.

From the moment of original release in 1925, the Phantom of the Opera has been considered among the

most classic movies of all time. The extreme, expressive acting & state of the art character makeup of the legendary Lon Chaney, the multitude of cuts, remade endings & restorations, the fantastic sets and filming techniques, all coalesce to create the mysterious aura that will forever fuel this masterpiece.

While several versions of the Phantom exist, this is perhaps the most unique & relevant to the darkwave subculture spawned by such art. Much the same way the fervor stirred by Gatson Leroux's original tale of obsession & revenge charged a burgeoning film industry in the 1920s, Switchblade Symphony managed to reinvigorate a faction of the dark electronic music industry in the 1990s.

The haunting operatic voices & mesmerizing keyboard loops provide the perfect soundscape to this,

once silent, gothic love story. Instrumentalist, Susan Wallace created Switchblade Symphony with opera-trained vocalist, Tina Root. Together, their lush electronic beats, classically-inspired vocals, and trip hop, mixed with ethereal sound

and gothic imagery created a sound all their own.
