The Move - Chinatown (Harvest HAR5043) 1971  

Formed in 1966 in Birmingham by Ace Kefford (bass), Carl Wayne (vocal), Trevor Burton (guitar), Bev Bevan (drums) and Roy Wood (vocal / songwriter). They scored 9 top twenty hits in five years, the first "Night Of Fear" made No.2 on the U.K. chart, the second "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" charted at No.5 and the third "Flowers In The Rain" has the distinction of being the first record to be played on Radio 1 and charted at No.2. The fourth single "Fire Brigade" also made the top three before Ace Kefford left and Jeff Lynne joined from fellow Birmingham band Idle Race releasing "Wild Tiger Woman" which surprisingly failed to chart although the next single "Blackberry Way" hit gold with their only No.1. At this point Trevor Burton left and Jeff Wayne quit in 1970 about the same time as the release of the "Looking On" album which spawned the top ten hit "Brontosaurus" and the non-charting "When Alice Comes Back To The Farm". Wood, Wayne and Bevan completed their final album "Message From The Country" in 1971 with the release of three singles "Tonight", this one "Chinatown" and "California Man" which was their last chart entry prior to the band morphing into the Electric Light Orchestra. This is the original vinyl on the Harvest label and is supplied with an original generic Harvest sleeve, however for the protection of the vinyl and to prevent further seam splits the vinyl is housed in a new white card die-cut sleeve.

Condition: Record: Excellent. Probably on the plus side of excellent. It has been played a few times but still plays perfectly. Under very bright halogen light there are light paper marks caused by merely removing the vinyl from the sleeve, there are also one or two slightly heavier surface marks, they are innocuous. Sleeve: Very good -. The worst damage is a 9cm seam split on the bottom edge, this renders it non-functional as a useable sleeve. There are creases to the corners and wear and tear to the open edge. Otherwise it is not bad. Label: Excellent. Some spindle marks.
