The How-to Guide to Basic Beekeeping

Award Winning!

About the Book

The How-to Guide to Basic Beekeeping is a practical, clear and often amusing guide to help the novice in getting started with beekeeing.  It is intended as a working volume, and takes the reader, step by step, through the basic manipulations, and answers many of the questions that manifest themselves in the early years of beekeeing.

Its 100 pages can be read cover to cover, to equip the reader with an appreciation of what they will need to do during the beekeeing year to look after their bees and prepare the resulting products for show and market.

The reader may equally well choose to dip into any of its 14 chapters to remind themselves of the key aspects of the task in hand:

  1. How to prevent swarming
  2. How to control swarming
  3. How to create an artificial swarm
  4. How to take a nucleus
  5. How to find the Queen
  6. How to take a swarm
  7. How to harvest the crop
  8. How to unite two colonies
  9. How to prepare for winter
  10. How to prepare honey for market
  11. How to prepare beeswax for market
  12. How to prepare for show
  13. How to move bees
  14. How to re-Queen a colony

The How-to Guide to Basic Beekeeping is now available in paperback.
