| | Album notes | The Delevantes: Bob Delevante (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica); Mike Delevante (vocals, electric 6- & 12-string guitars, percussion).Additional personnel: John Noreen (pedal steel, lap steel guitar); Benmont Tench (piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Garry Tallent (bass, baritone guitar); Mike Porter (drums, percussion).Brothers Bob and Mike Delevante bridge the gap between pop and country without resorting to the kind of crass commercialism that mars the crossover attempts of countless Nashville "hat acts." Instead of taking the obvious route by rocking up a basic country sound, the Delevantes combine elements of the country arsenal with a harmonically-sophisticated songwriting sensibility, coming off like a modern-day Everly Brothers, who managed to pull of a similar trick in their late-'60s post-pop phase. With tight, close vocal harmonies and polite, thoughtful arrangements, the brothers Delevante forge a sound that is expansive enough to include weepers like "I Know I Promised" as well as the brash two-step of "My Daddy's Cadillac."
