Formed in 2003 by front man Andy Kyriakou and keyboard player Rob Tranter, Telex cut their teeth in the green and pleasant lands around the west-midlands. Fresh faced from Shrewsbury, they set about playing a series of small intimate gigs in the surrounding area. With their unique sense of style and a sound to match, they soon established themselves at the forefront of an emerging new scene which is based around melodic guitars and old school electronic instruments; forcing a sound reminiscent of early ‘Radiohead’ combined with the sensitivity of ‘Doves’. Their self-released debut single was picked up by Radio One Unsigned and a deal with independent Birmingham based label Fortune and Glory followed.

From the confines of their home studio Telex have crafted an E.P that destroys any preconceived notions and refuses the confines of any particular genre. The perfect balance between indie-guitar based roots and new age electronica becomes apparent in the stunning ‘Motion Sickness’, the first track on their new mini-album ‘Byp/Ctrl’ released on May 23rd 2005. Andy Kyriakou vocals range from the most sensitive utterance to that of passionate despair. While Rob Tranters cascading guitar picking fits snugly with spinning keyboard melodies to form rich sonic landscapes. The hypnotic beats of drummer Jon Leech and bassist Eric Loveland propel the songs forward on a tight bed of pulsing rhythm. Sonic bleeps and noises are woven in between the instrumentation adding an altogether experimental and unusual dynamic to the songs.

The charismatic and versatile Telex have brought flair and a sense of style to the current guitar/rock scene. With the release of Byp/Ctrl, they have an E.P that perfectly captures their message. It is simply stunning and shows a band who are well on their way to becoming a world class act.
