The scales are complete; the main brace screws into a brass holder fixed in the box and the scales simply balance on this, If you go to places like India the time-honoured jewellers their will still use this type of scale to weigh the gold and gems, you choose the gem or gold and out come the scales, they are very skilled at this and never short change themselves!

Very minute items can be weighed with these, items less than a half a pin in fact the smallest weight is 10mg as the scales come with flyweights that are a fraction of a gram, and tweezers are supplied for this procedure
