The buttons closely follow the dimensions and profile of the classic mini-size Schaller button. Also available in standard size - see additional listings. Please note that mini buttons are compatible with mini and standard size tuning machines and vice-versa.

The trade in tortoiseshell products (actually the shell of the endangered Hawksbill turtle) has been thankfully illegal for many years. However until the ban tortoiseshell was used widely in the musical instrument industry for guitar bindings, inlays, pickguards, tuner buttons etc., for it's beauty and strength. Our tuner buttons are manufactured from Casein, a phosphor-protein of milk produced by heating it with acid to form a beautiful, dense and extremely hard-wearing plastic. Casein can be made to closely mimic the appearance and to a large degree, the strength and density of genuine tortoiseshell.
