Design remit

On a high performance board, volume is no longer one of the principle criteria. The crucial elements here are the surface area of the board in contact with the water and the scoop, which together dictate the board's straight line speed and its power to get up to planing. The Hyper X boards are therefore very thin and designed with a tight scoop, the objective being to keep maximum pressure low down to the water, optimise upwind performance and get up to planing very early. Their reduced volume also helps keep weight to a minimum.

On the water

The Hyper X boards have the potential for very high speed in the light to moderate wind range and are very comfortable in lumpy, irregular winds. Planing is immediate, they accelerate super-fast and they keep moving easily through wind lulls. The reduced length and volume makes them super-responsive and give improved control when the wind fills in. The relatively thin rear rails mean fast, easy jibes and the bevels on the forward section reduce the risk of snagging at high speed. Despite being high performance, the Hyper X boards are only marginally more technical to ride than our freeride boards. Excellent boards for long distance.
