The kit comprises:

1. Platter Damping Ring (PDR). Designed specifically for this deck - 19mm deep to fit Thorens platter perfectly. Fits tightly around the rim of the platter and acts as a Peripheral Wave Trap, effectively absorbing vibrations / resonances and enhancing rotational stability. (Shown in picture).

2. Twin Motor Vibration Absorbers (MVA).  These fit tightly around the casing of the motor to reduce vibration which would otherwise be transmitted to the plinth or (via the belt) to the sub-platter. Please note that to fit the top MVA you need to remove the motor or disconnect / reconnect the motor wiring.

3. Quality Felt Mat. Made with identical grade felt, and to the same exacting standards as the one supplied with the Linn LP12, this is a tremendous upgrade from the standard rubber mat. (Shown in picture).

4. Brand new drive belt. Genuine Thorens belts are not currently available, but this is manufactured to the same high standards. Drive belts need replacing every couple of years - if your belt is even slightly worn the deck may still run perfectly to speed, but dynamic information will be smeared. It will sound 'tired' and lacklustre.

5. Ultimate Turntable Bearing Oil. If your turntable has not had a service for a few years it needs an oil change! This is the best bearing oil available - known to Audiophiles as 'Black Oil' it contains Molybdenum Disulfide and Graphite. Makes the turntable bearing quieter, more efficient and drastically reduces wear.

6. Hi-Fi News & Record Review Cartridge Alignment Protractor. Accurate and hard wearing, this will allow you to align the cartridge perfectly in the headshell to achieve the minimum possible tracking error over the entire surface of the disc. An incorrectly positioned cartridge causes tracking distortion and will irretrievably damage your vinyl. Suitable for Thorens and all other tonearms.

7. Cartridge Mounting Kit. Very high quality non-magnetic stainless steel hex head fixings, so you can mount the cartridge securely in the headshell. Cartridges mounted with poor quality fixings (such as those bundled with the cartridge) will cause audible loss of information. This is our latest and most comprehensive kit which comes complete with: 8, 10, 16 and 20mm bolts, 8 nuts / washers and allen wrench. 20mm bolts of this diameter are incredibly hard to find - this kit allows you to properly mount any cartridge on the market.

8. Pro Stylus Cleaning Fluid with applicator brush. Effectively cleans the muck off the stylus (and behind it, where it builds up). Use this regularly for best results. You can also use this fluid to clean the belt, motor pulley & driving surfaces.

9. Main Bearing Spindle Support Pad.  High Purity PTFE thrust pad that sits in bottom of main bearing housing providing a friction free, non-resonant support for the bearing spindle, eliminating metal to metal contact and thus reducing bearing noise.

10. Adjustable Motor Thrust Bearing. This attaches to the bottom of the motor, allowing the motor spindle to run on a hardened 4mm stainless steel ball instead of the sleeve bearing in the motor. Result - less motor noise, lower noise floor, more information.

11. Main Bearing Damping Rings (BDR's). These fit tightly around the main bearing housing, effectively damping resonances generated within the bearing.

The damping components (PDR, MVA & BDR's) are manufactured from a particular type and grade of synthetic polymer, specifically chosen for its damping properties at the frequencies that cause problems within LP replay systems.

Couldn't wait till Saturday, so fitted the whole thing this afternoon. The improvement is certainly remarkable, most of all, I think, the silent background. Also the stereo is so much more precise that it took me a while to realise that the violins usually do sit on the left and it wasn't a balance problem in my setup! My wife walked in and said, 'That's very clean and clear, isn't it!'. I am especially delighted with the translucent soundstage in chamber music and jazz. All in all, definitely a worthwhile upgrade and I shall recommend your products widely. And your service was second to none.

I am still absolutely delighted with the results of the upgrade kit. You have a very good product indeed. I'm an inveterate turntable 'tweaker', and this was the most I've spent on the turntable by far, but the results are outstanding. And having lived for a long time in the twilight world of pseudo-mystical tweaking where people talk about the sound improving if you wash your light bulbs (not that I ever went off in that direction), it has been good to deal with somebody who makes a clear and technically convincing
case for their product. But ears are the main test bench as always. After having now done a LOT of listening, I've found the main benefits to be -

- very quiet background, so you often can't tell if the stylus is on the record until the music starts. Along with this, a much stronger sense of the acoustic of the original recording.

- amazing dynamism and punchiness, with great dynamic range.

- enhanced tolerance of surface noise.

- much more detail extracted (sometimes showing up poor microphone placing and foot-shuffling - the Thorens is now as severe towards poor recordings as is my Nakamichi 600 cassette deck!

- a sometimes disconcerting immediacy to the sound, and a clarity to the bass which matches that of my Meridian CD which I bought because its transparent truthfully pitched bass.

- and a pleasing positiveness to the mechanics - you can feel the benefit of the new belt when you try to rotate the turntable when it's unpowered. My last replacement belt was an original Thorens, so I'm very glad you've sourced a good alternative.

I will definitely be buying your CD damping mat, but I'll have to wait until after an expensive laser replacement on the Meridian. In the meantime I'm putting the word around. OH BOY - is all I can say. Using the cart cleaner and protractor to get the best out of the (small but effective) Ortofon already made a huge difference. But the damping ring and felt mat really took the whole setup to a new level of clarity, detail and most of all smoothness - gone are the metallic sounding resonances you normally get on any cheap suspended deck; all you get is that good old vinyl smoothness and incredibly rich texture - beats the crap out of a thoroughly excellent Meridian CD player. (Also the whole thing looks much better with the felt mat and ring on :-)).

Net, a great buy. Doesn't change the nature of the sound or personality of the deck - as many "upgrades" unfortunately do - but brings out the best in it and takes away the downsides. Just bought a TD 150 for a ridiculous price so I'll be ordering one more of these kits very soon. Thanks again. MJ (FRANCE)
