Thomas Messel designs and creates hand made furniture to individual commissions, the ‘haute couture’ of elegant furniture.
He comes from a distinguished family of artists and designers, including Oliver Messel (1904-1978) his uncle, the celebrated stage designer,
Tony Snowdon, the Royal photographer and designer, and Alfred Messel (1853-1909) leading architect to Berlin and Kaiser Wilhelm II.
With over 30 years of experience in the field, a vast repertoire of work and an extensive knowledge of the European 17th and 18th Century decorative arts,
he designs, imaginative and original furniture for contemporary use. Each piece is individually designed and hand drawn and Messel likes to work closely
with his clients and patrons, so that the furniture reflects their taste and style, as well as a sense of individuality and elegance, which are his trademarks.
He undertakes and installs furniture projects all over the world, not only in Britain and Europe, but in the US, the West Indies,
Russia, the Middle and Far East, and Australia. Each piece of furniture is made to the highest standard of excellence and craftsmanship.
For this, master craftsmen, who produce work of museum quality, carry out his designs, working in the field of carving, gilding,
decorative painting and lacquer work, cabinet making, marquetry, pietra dura, scagliola, glass, metal and upholstery.
His furniture has been acclaimed for its design and craftsmanship since 1980, with The Guildmark design Awards from
The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, London, The Crown Estates: The 2004 winner with Alidad,
of the 'World Of Interiors' award for product design in the 'Velvet Furniture Collection', and a highly select clientele.
