A FIELD GUIDE

This paperback book is ideal for collectors of and dealers in Booths China and would make the perfect present for yourself or for any collector that you have in your family. It was reviewed in The Antiques Trade Gazette in December 2003.

A4 in size (ie 11.5" x 8.25"), it contains 104 pages; following the introduction, the section on patterns describes some 200 in words and shows pictures of over 400 more - nearly 650 altogether; this includes official pattern names, pattern numbers, registered numbers and dates as appropriate/available, as well as giving some background information on the most commonly found designs. There follows a section on shapes divided into

  • teapots,
  • coffeepots,
  • jugs and gravy boats,
  • mugs, cups and saucers,
  • plates and tazzas,
  • bowls, dishes and tureens,
  • toilet and washstand sets,
  • vases, and
  • everything else
- altogether some 340 shapes including such unusual items as door furniture, pen and ink stands, a cabaret set, a combined soap and toothbrush-holder, matchbox stand, barometer and many more.

The small section on hospital and kitchenwares shows jelly moulds and fireproof items, amongst others. In the section on commissions and commemoratives are some four dozen examples. This is followed by over two dozen backstamps for Royal Semi-Porcelain, Silicon China, Parisien Granite, Ribstoneware et al, plus information on general dating, a general price guide, and finally there is a section for you to write your own notes.

All told there is in excess of 850 full colour photographs, all for just £19.95.
