THE SCHNEIDER TROPHY - High Speed Seaplanes 1913-1931 By Alan Smith A superb book that tells the story - accompanied by around 80 b/w photographs, some full page - of arguably aviation's greatest contest. The pictures, and the memories of competitors describe the progression from the wood-and-fabric biplanes which completed in the early contests, to the sleek all-metal high high-speed racers which characterised the final races. Gives an excellent history of the race, then page after page of photographs, each accompanied by detailed text regarding the race or pilot involved. Wonderful photographs, many which have never before been published. The inside front cover has a full page reproduction of the frontispiece from the official 1931 programme. The inside back cover reproduces the official letter from the Air Ministry to the Royal Areo Club listing the officers who would represent Britain in the 1931 contest. An interesting point is that the date of the letter is less than a fortnight before the contest. B/w photos throughout. 56 pages.
