THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE RAILROAD The National Railroad Museum of America's first Official Commemorative Tankard. PORTRAYING FIVE OF THE GREATEST LOCOMATIVES IN THE HISTORY OF RAILROADING. HANDCRAFTED IN FINE LEAD-FREE PEWTER. COMPLIMENTED WITH A GOLD-PLATED HANDLE REPLICTING THE FAMED GOLDEN SPIKE. The importance of railroading was perhaps never more apparent than on that day in 1869 when East met West at Promontory Point Utha. For the first time in history the entire continent was linked by rail. The history of the United States took a dramatic turn. This Tankard authorised by the National Railroad Museum and produced by the Franklin Mint was issued in 1988 in honour of the Golden Spike Ceremony. The workmanship is consummate artistry with extraordinary detail, depicting The Liverpool and Manchester ROCKET, masters of the rail in 1829. Also the aptly named BIG BOY, a true titan at 1,208,750 pounds. The paying price for this item was £175.00 back in 1993 when the final instalment was made to purchase this tankard. As with the other items for sale from this collection a very low starting price. |
