SAMUEL JOHNSON 1709-1784
English writer, critic, lexicographer, man of letters, and conversationalist, always known as Doctor Johnson. 
One of England's most famous authors and compiler of the first authoritative Dictionary of the English language, first published in 1775.

This work by James Boswell is probably the best known and most widely read of all biographies and is the most accurate as Boswell was Johnson's closest friend.

Containing over 1,200 pages of Johnson's life, plus The Journal Of A tour To The Hebrides with Samuel Johnson.
Over 1,700 pages in total.

CONDITION
Original publishers cloth bindings, spines with gilt decorations and gilt lettered titles, slight wear to tops/tails of spines, slight foxing to some pages.

Size of each volume is 8¾ by 5¾ inches.
