The 30 tracks offered here show Rod Stewart and the boys at their most cavalier and raggedly swinging, but also make room for plenty of the tender, melancholy ballads that betray the fragile hearts beneath the drunken smirks. Perhaps most importantly, DEFINITIVE ROCK does a nice job of capturing the key odds and sods that, while they don't show the Faces at their sharpest, cut to the very essence of what the band was about--good times, both coming and going.
