ABOUT THE BOOK.
Published in 1992 by the Cottingham Local History Society this book takes a look at what is apparantley the oldest surviving Public House in what has often been described as the largest village in England - Cottingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
It explores the history of both the establishment, which, it reports, has origins dating back over three hundred years and also the man behind the name - The Duke of Cumberland. The book has 36 pages with around 14 pictures including a copy of a painting of the pub created by J. E. Frith in 1879.
This book would make an interesting and valuable addition to the collection of anyone who has an interest in pub histories or local or family history in the area or who has simply enjoyed a drink or two at 'The Duke in Cott' in the past
