Additional information: Telscombe is a town in the Lewes District of East Sussex, England. The village on the South Downs is located six miles (10 km) south of Lewes; the ancient ecclesiastical parish had a coastal frontage between those of Rottingdean and Piddinghoe, now much taken up by modern housing development, particularly Saltdean, and Peacehaven, including Telscombe Cliffs, within the civil parish. The Prime Meridian passes just to the east of Telscombe. In 1929 Telscombe became a civil parish: in 1974 it became a town, with a mayor. The new Civic Centre came into use in Telscombe Cliffs in 2000. The village of Telscombe, on a winding road ending in a dead end, is a small cluster of buildings around the church, dedicated to St Laurence. It is a 10th-century foundation, with a 13th-century font. It also has a school, Telscombe Cliffs Primary. The parish includes part of the Brighton to Newhaven Cliffs Site of Special Scientific Interest. The cliffs are mainly of geological interest, containing many Santonian and Campanian fossils. The SSSI listing includes flora and fauna biological interest too.
