TAMIYA 1/6 BMW R75/5 BIG MOTORBIKE GENUINE UK KIT 16006

The R75/5 is a BMW motorbike, with a 750 cc boxer twin engine, which was manufactured in Berlin, Germany, by the Bayerische Motoren Werke. The "slash-5" series came out just in time to meet the rising demand for sports bikes. The new series of BMWs offered a 12 volt electrical system, electric starters as well as a kick start, telescopic forks and improved brakes. The sidecar was no longer factored into the design, allowing for better handling. The use of plastic resulted in a motorcycle weighing only 463 lb. The Slash-5 series was the first to be manufactured completely in Berlin, as all Munich's production capacity was needed for cars.
As motorbikes started to regain popularity in the early 1970s, production figures at BMW Spandau Plant began to increase rapidly. In 1970 12,287 units came off the production line and by July 1973, when the /5 model series reached the end of its production, 68,956 motorcycles had left the Berlin Plant, production increasing five-fold within just three years. Another highlight celebrated at the time was the completion of the 500,000th BMW motorbike.
The BMW R75/5 was then the fastest production motorbike with a top speed of 109 mph. This model is based on the motorbike which the police used on the 'Autobahn' in Germany. Whilst riding at high speeds the Police Officer was protected by a large front windscreen. The BMW R75/5s had legendary reliability.
