Ignition Coils and Coil On Plug

The ignition coil converts a low voltage current to high voltage energy that is delivered to the spark plug to ignite the air fuel mixture within the cylinder. A coil on plug is designed to perform the functions ofof both the ignition coil and spark plug wire.

Lucas's coil on plug assemblies are engineered and tested to meet or exceed OE standards for spark energy,impedence, and durability. The core has an internalneodymium permanent magnetsurrounded by grain orientated magnetic laminated steel - for maximum voltage output at all speeds.

The primary winding has a 200 c insulated coating over a premium 25 guage copper wire, allowing low voltage to generate a strong magnetic field. A high temperature insulation coating prevents shorts between the windings.

The high impact case is tough and durable with excellent thermal qualities and the high temperature spark plug boot contains a conductive stainless steel spring with radio staic noise suppressor-

	MAP SENSOR FUNCTION- This is used to measure the inlet manifold vacuum and to give load signal to the ECU. CAUSES OF FAILURE- Internal damage to the diaphragm and circuitry caused by petrol vapour. SYMPTOMS- Incorrect mixture. Poor running. Difficult starting.
	ENGINE POSITION SENSOR FUNCTION- This is used to measure engine speed and crankshaft position. CAUSES OF FAILURE- Corrosion damage. Impact or external damage. SYMPTOMS- Loss of or weak signal to ECU causing failure to start or poor running.
	THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FUNCTION- This is used to measure the throttle angle and the rate of throttle opening. This provides the ECU with a load signal. CAUSES OF FAILURE- Water ingress. Damage to resistor track. SYMPTOMS- Poor driveability. Idle problems.
	AIR FLOW METER FUNCTION- Airflow sensors are used to measure load by metering the volume of air flowing into the engine. CAUSES OF FAILURE- Sticking sensor flap. Worn resistor track. Base plate air leak. SYMPTOMS- Incorrect mixture signal to ECU. Poor running. Difficult starting.
