How much power will I gain?  On our test machine (Sinnis Hawk 50cc 2T) we gained 0.7 BHP, that’s 18% (but feels much more on the road!). Compare that to a super chip on a petrol car costing £250, average gains ranging from just 2% to 10% and the figures stack up pretty well. On our test scooter this CDI relieved it of it’s 35MPH restriction and topped out at 52 MPH. Please be aware that performance will vary on every bike depending on set up and already installed modifications. How does an advanced CDI work?  As your crank rotates it’s send an electrical signal though a sensor to the CDI (Captive Discharge Ignition), the CDI in turn send a pulse to the coil which then sends a spark to the plug, igniting your fuel and forcing the piston downwards with the incurring explosion.  A standard CDI fires it’s spark when the piston is at TDC (top dead centre) but the race version will send off that spark early to allow it to hit just before TDC forcing the piston over that much faster. As the revs then increase and the spark is being fired out faster and faster the remapped advancement is predetermining the spark to promote ever increasing revs.

Will this harm my bike?  If you throttle it flat out for prolonged periods with a standard CDI the engine will overheat and seize, and it is just the same with a performance version. The limiter has been removed but other factors such as valve bounce and the rotating mass of your engine will limit the RPM. If your machine is new please follow the manufacturers running in advice before applying any sort of modification. Due to the timing advance your bike will be slightly harder to start.

Why don’t they come as standard?  50cc learner legal bikes are restricted to 35MPH by law. When in production these bikes are made to strict regulations, i.e.  emissions and power output.  You will notice that a remapped CDI will make the throttle so much more responsive, which is great if you want pure performance, but not so great if you only want a steady to commute to work.

Will this fit my bike?  There are six types of pin, with the ever changing Chinese market  the only way for you to know is to check. Providing the connections are the same this CDI will work on 2 stroke engine scooters 50cc to 90cc.

All the Kamikaze Pro range have detailed published rolling road results following many hours of testing  at a registered Dyno Jet© centre.
