Description: An excellent figural landscape, watercolour on artist's paper, signed "T.S. Bowers", and dated 1881 and framed - approx 40 X 31 inches (101.6 X 78.74cm). This is an excellent English School watercolour dating from the Victorian period. The figural landscape depicts a wonderful late 19th Century romanticist idyllic English country scene. A large and impressive piece, beautifully painted with stunning detailing to the floral and fauna, this autumnal view sees the figure of a man repairing a picket gate, a woman kneeling assisting, whilst another figure collects tinder from the woodland, bundles resting on the banks of the brook. A rustic log bridge spans the ditch, tall trees rising high speckled with brown leaves, highlighted by ivy growing up their trunks. Above a blue clouded sky completes the composition. The work is signed and dated lower right - "T.S. Bowers", 1881.

Artist Biography: "T.S. Bowers" 19thC - Landscape artist - Exhibited 1874 - 1891.
Framing: Later ovolo moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt. The watercolour is mounted on board and has a off-white mount.
Condition: The painting has mellowed a little with age, consistent with character and authenticity. There are some spots of foxing, namely to the sky area, again only adding to the character of this late 19th Century painting. The later frame is in good condition.
