Here we have a magnificent and rare M5 Carbon Highracer recumbent. M5 are renowned for producing the fastest bikes on the planet and the Carbon Highracer is no exception with Gert Jan Wigers claiming the hour record in Oct last year after covered 50.392km in one hour. For further details of the Carbon Highracer and rider sizing etc please look at M5’s website http://www.m5-ligfietsen.nl/site/EN/Models/Carbon_High_Racer

This example is one of only a handful imported into the UK and while it isn’t new it is in excellent condition. The bike is less than two years old and I bought it in December last year with a view to racing it. In the end circumstances changed and I’ve rode it (not raced) around 10 times. Performance is amazing and my average speed on this bike is 3mph faster than on any other bike (recumbent or conventional) that I have owned.  Hill climbing is also a breeze with such a light bike. Surprisingly it’s also an easy recumbent to ride with the 700c sized wheels giving a very stable ride at high or low speeds.

This is a dream bike that has been lovingly cared for. Mechanical and cosmetic condition is very nearly as new. However this bike is two years old and not new so there is some paint missing on the drive side crank which got rubbed off when it caught the front derailleur cable. Also there are a couple of minor cosmetic surface marks near the front wheel that look much worse in the photos and are hardly noticeable in real life. These tiny marks in no way affect strength or performance. Most wouldn’t mention them on a two year old bike but I realise this is an expensive purchase and I want you to be totally happy with what you are buying. The bike is stored indoors and has never been out in the rain. BikeShield protective plastic has been applied to any area that cables could rub and overall I doubt you could find a better used example.

New theses bikes cost from £3500-£5000 +P&P depending on the spec. I will accept cheque, Paypal, bank transfer or cash as payment but because of the value I will only release the bike once payment has cleared and the money is in my account. Sorry no postage so local pick-up only. The bike is located near Inverness and if you want to view the bike before bidding then that can be arranged.

Q: What is the seat height to the low part of the seat pad, and bottom bracket height from its center from the ground ? I have done 8000 miles on a giro 26,26 this summer with 700c wheels ,just recently converted to 650c. I... Continue reading
A: Tim sounds like the perfect bike for you! Seat height is 54 cm. BB height is 77 cm. I'm sure it would make a very nice fast road touring bike.

Q: Hello, are there any adjustments to seat and handlebars?
A: Hi. The seat has two positions. The handlebars are adjustable for reach and the boom adjustable for leg length. That said do check out the M5 website for rider sizing. Thanks for your interest.

Q: Bit of a long shot but you didn't give a reason for sale, I don't suppose you're selling to get a different type of recumbent? I've a Trice Q which I've been considering selling to switch to two wheels if... Continue reading
A: I’m selling because the Highracer is a thoroughbred racer and I’m more of a tourer! The bike deserves to be owned by somebody who will make the most of its performance. Sorry, I’m not interested in the Trice as I have way too... Continue reading

Q: so there's definitely no way you can ship it? 9 hours drive from the midlands! i guess flying up is a possibility...
A: Hi. The problem with shipping is that it’s too long to fit in a bike box. I am not happy to send it without it being properly packaged and insured which is why it’s local pickup only. If YOU want to arrange collection then... Continue reading

A: Hi and thank you for your interest. I cannot answer for the previous owner but I have never crashed/dropped the bike and there are no scratches/scuffs that would indicate that the bike has ever been crashed. I have been very... Continue reading
