The sprocket wheels have a hard-coated surface to reduce wear. 748 models are originally equipped with a 520 chain. The 916/996/998 models and Multistrada and Hypermotard are originally equipped with a 525 chain. The tooth geometry has been optimized by means of computer-design for highest possible mileage. Internal and external machining have been done in a single working cycle to avoid concentric run problems.

Die Kettenräder besitzen als Verschleißschutz eine hartcoatierte Oberfläche. 748-Modelle verwenden original eine 520er Kette. Die Modelle 916/996/998 und die Multistrada und Hypermotard haben original eine 525er Kette. Die Zahngeometrie wurde für eine größtmögliche Laufleistung computergestützt optimiert. Die Innen- und Außenbearbeitung wurden in einem Arbeitsgang gefertigt, somit ist ein Rundlauffehler ausgeschlossen.
