Tulip Mania Sothebys, Amsterdam, Tuesday 16th June 1998 Used, condition good, some light marks to cover Tulip Mania was a legacy for Holland in the 1630's and Tulip books, which were albums of watercolours depicting tulips were made as catalogues for bulb dealers. Over the years various artists have often copied from these albums and this catalogue would ideal for any budding artists to copy from. According to the preface some of sheets in the auction probably originated from three albums and appear to be based on watercolours attributable to Anthony Claesz found in various Tulip books from the Tulip Mania. |
