Sony ST-5950SD - Dolby FM / AM Tuner - New Unused Boxed
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a new unused Sony ST5950SD tuner. This unit is still plastic wrapped in the original box. I would imagine the chances of finding another in this condition are very low.
The tuner belonged to my father, but he never got around to using it. I am sure most people bidding on this item are already aware of what they are bidding on. If you are in any doubt and require further information then I would advise you to consult the following links:
http://www.audio-ideas.com/reviews/tuners/sony-fmtuner-vintage-audio.html
http://www.thevintageknob.org/SONY/sonyvault/ST5950SD/ST5950SD.html
Due to the age of this tuner I am unable to provide any guarantee. However I do believe that the build quality of Sony equipment is very good.
The tuner has never been plugged in - the power lead does not even have a plug attached to it. This tuner was from the days when you did not have to supply a pre-fitted plug on electrical equipment!
I will accept payment either by PayPal or cash upon collection.

This is a heavy item (11,3Kg) and will be significantly more to post to destinations outside of the UK (the exact price will be dependent upon the level of insurance, speed of delivery and tracking preference). I want to avoid any problems when the auction completes. Thank you.
I have decided to add the following statement for clarification:
I am unable to offer any guarantee with regard to this tuner, apart from the fact that the tuner has never been used. My reason for this is that the tuner is at least 30 years old and has never been used, i.e. powered up. It is therefore possible that something in the tuner may fail when it is switched on for the first time, or equally it may be totally fine. Collectors, enthusiasts and fans of vintage hi-fi may have some knowledge of what components might have deteriorated, if any, and I assume these could be checked prior to the tuner's first use (or I assume this information could also be obtained from various websites / groups). If these checks are not done then there is a risk of failure, although how great a risk I cannot say, but this is also true even for some new modern equipment! I do not have the knowledge to check the tuner prior to first use and that is why I am unwilling to test and/or guarantee it. If I were to just go ahead and plug it in then it may be fine, but it may not. Due to my ignorance in this area I do not want to do this, as I could then be left with a very good tuner that is broken. For better or worse I have left the decision about what to check, if anything, to the winning bidder, and the item is being sold on that basis. I hope this helps to clarify my position and thanks for your interest in this auction.
NOTE: The marks on the photos that you can see on the top of the unit are on the plastic and NOT the unit itself. They have been caused by the cardboard packing material used in the box. I did not want to remove the unit from its packaging.
On 07-Jul-08 at 10:27:34 BST, seller added the following information:I can confirm that this unit does have a voltage selector, with the choices being 240v, 220v, 127v and 110v.
